Philips ultrasound system ‘offers premium image quality’

Philips has announced the launch of its new handled ultrasound system, which it claims offers users premium image quality.

The CX50 CompactXtreme aims to offer high-quality images in a portable system that aims to offer clear diagnostic data at the bedside to help cardiologists make their diagnoses.

It reportedly encompasses the image quality expected of a premium full-size system combined with the portability of a smaller solution.

The system features the PureWave transducer, which has clinically proven its ability to reduce clutter and enhance penetration in difficult-to-image patients, facilitating the viewing of fine structures in detail.

Anne LeGrand, senior vice-president and general manager of ultrasound for Philips Healthcare, said: “Following extensive research into clinicians’ needs, we?’ve designed a laptop-sized system that can help them get to patients quickly – no matter where they are in the hospital or clinic.”

She added that regardless of the difficulty of a situation faced by a clinician, the system can produce high quality images.

Last month, Philips reported robust sales figures and an increase in earnings for the second quarter of the 2008 fiscal year.

The company generated sales of 6.5 billion euros (5.2 billion pounds) during the quarter, a rise of six per cent year-on-year.
