Invitrogen team up with Lentigen

Invitrogen is set to receive products and services for gene over-expression from privately-held biotechnology firm Lentigen.

The company, which specialises in the development and manufacture of lentiviral gene-delivery technologies, has announced it struck a partnership to provide to Invitrogen who will exclusively commercialise the products and services.

Nathan Wood, Invitrogen’s vice-president of cloning and protein expression, said the move would enable researchers to easily obtain ready-to-use lentiviral particles carrying either customer-designed elements or predetermined and validated sets from its Ultimate ORF collection.

"This partnership will combine Invitrogen’s immense resources in human-gene collections and the speed and convenience of Gateway and TOPO cloning technologies and gene synthesis, with Lentigen’s leading position [in the sector]," he added.

Invitrogen revealed last month its plans to merge with Applied Biosystems are "well on track".

The life science firm’s head of operations, Mark Smedley, said the transaction is pending waiting periods and is subject to approval by both organisations’ shareholders.
