Applied Biosystems to host stem cell research symposia

Applied Biosystems has announced it will host two conferences later this month aimed at sharing the latest research and scientific techniques in the field of stem cell research.

The events, which will be held in Connecticut and New Jersey, will see the company team up with the Rutgers Stem Cell Research Center, Connecticut United for Research Excellence (Cure) and the New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology.

Stem cell research could potentially lead to new therapies for conditions such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s.

However, the company said, many researchers in this relatively new field are unfamiliar with the molecular biology methods required to effectively study stem cells’ biological processes.

The symposia will attempt to address this by giving scientists the opportunity to share information on techniques such as gene expression analysis and genotyping, as well as technology like genomic analysis sequencing.

Paul Pescatello JD PhD, president and chief executive officer of Cure, said: "Providing researchers, policy makers and the public a forum to learn how stem cell research is progressing is critical to the translation of this research into clinical therapies."

The symposia will take place in Connecticut on September 17th and in New Jersey from September 18th to 19th.
