Amgen to present key denosumab data

Amgen has announced it is to present important clinical trial data of denosumab at the annual meeting of the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) in Montreal starting this week.

The firm will also show this data at the upcoming congress of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) in Stockholm.

Amgen said updated data will be given at both meetings, with the company presenting phase II data of the compound’s oncology programme, in addition to phase 1/1b clinical data from its apoptosis and angiogenesis pipeline programmes.

The company said it will also give preclinical and clinical data from the Vectibix (panitumumab) programme at the ESMO conference.

Roger M Perlmutter, executive vice-president of research and development at Amgen, said: “Throughout Amgen’s history, we have tapped the power of scientific discovery to advance the practice of medicine.”

He added that the company is pleased to presenting vital trial data at both the ESMO and ASBMR meetings to show how its science can be used to address areas of unmet need in serious illnesses.

In July 2008, Amgen announced positive top-line results from a phase III study of denosumab as a treatment for bone loss in non-metastatic prostate cancer patients undergoing androgen deprivation therapy.
