GE Healthcare to partner with Shinva

2nd January 2009

GE Healthcare is to form a joint venture with Shinva Medical Instrument, it emerged this week.

The partnership, named Xinhua GE Medical Systems, aims to focus on research and development, sales and manufacturing of diagnostic X-ray equipment.

It is set to be based in the Shandong province of China, with GE Healthcare holding a 49 per cent stake in the company and Shinva owning 51 per cent.

A total investment of $25 million (17.14 million pounds) is expected.

Meanwhile, last year saw GE Healthcare announce that a medical imaging system it manufactured had been highlighted as one of the most energy-efficient on the market.

The Signa HDe 1.5T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) tool was recognised as an ecomagination offering, which is the company’s aim to providing products able to address both financial and environmental needs.

Vice-president and general manager of the group’s global MRI business Jim Davis said: “The Signa HDe is a reflection of our commitment to produce quality, energy-efficient technologies for our customers worldwide.”

“We are extremely excited and proud,” he added.

Two of the models were also installed for the Olympic Games in Beijing, at the Olympic Village General Hospital.
