Cephalon reveals rise in sales over 2008

13th February 2009

Cephalon’s sales grew $1.943 billion (1.339 billion pounds) over the course of 2008, the company has said.

The organisation also noted its basic income per common share over the same period was $3.17, while transactions in the firm’s central nervous system franchise increased 15 per cent on 2007’s figure to $1.049 billion.

Oncology sales were additionally up 100 per cent to $185.6 million, which Cephalon attributed to the launch of Treanda (bendamustine hydrochloride).

Frank Baldino Jr, chairman and chief executive officer of the company, said he was “pleased” with the organisation’s performance over 2008, but was “even more excited” about new opportunities in its treatments for inflammatory diseases.

“Our ability to move quickly when opportunities present themselves coupled with our internal pipeline positions Cephalon favorably for future growth,” he added.

The firm has said it is reiterating its guidance for total sales in 2009 of $2.175 to $2.225 billion and adjusted net income of $452 to $459 million.

Last month, Cephalon revealed it was to purchase all outstanding capital stock of Ception Therapeutics.
