Lilly says new appointment will build on strengths

Lilly’s latest appointment will enable it to build on the company’s strengths, it has asserted.

Alex M Azar II, who is currently the senior vice-president of corporate affairs and communications, will take on the leadership role in the firm’s business-to-business organisation in America.

He joined the company in 2007 and has helped position it as an advocate of public policies that support biopharmaceuticals, the business explained.

Professor John C Lechleiter, chairman and chief executive officer of Lilly, stated the promotion would enable the business to look at ways to understand and address the needs of its customers in a more meaningful and effective manner.

He commented: “Alex’s strong political and healthcare background and expertise will enable us to further build the strength of the organization at a critical time for both Lilly and the industry.”

The restructure will also be a good opportunity for Mr Azar to build front-line experience at one of the firm’s largest affiliates, Professor Lechleicter concluded.

Lilly was founded on May 10th 1876 and now employs around 39,076 staff across the globe.
