Fort Dodge Animal Health authorised to change ProMeris label

Fort Dodge Animal Health has received approval for a new label claim for one of its medications to treat canines, it has been reported.

The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) authorised ProMeris to be used for dogs with demodicosis and lice, explained VetSurgeon.

In the past, vets have often had to use off-label products to treat demodectic mange, the company told the website.

This was because some canines failed to respond to available remedies. The condition is also commonly time-consuming for the pet owner, it concluded.

In January, Fort Dodge Animal Health announced it had received licensing for Duvaxyn by the EMEA to treat equine West Nile disease.

There has recently been an outbreak of the virus in northern Italy and the firm asserted the approval of the drug should provide reassurance for horse owners.

Fort Dodge Animal Health was the first company to develop a vaccine to protect animals against the illness. It was previously available in the US when there was an outbreak of the virus in 2002, which affected 15,000 horses.
