Bayer to explore full potential of Nexavar

Bayer has asserted Nexavar has a proven track record of treating two cancers.

It has shown to be effective in aiding advanced renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer) and unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer), explained Dr Mark Gelder from the company’s global medical affairs oncology division.

He added the business is committed to examining the full potential of the drug across a number of different tumour types.

The medication is being evaluated as a combination therapy or a single agent in a range of cancers such as ovarian and breast.

Dr Gelder commented: “The more data we compile that help us understand the potential utility of Nexavar in these tumour types, the closer we are to ? helping to improve the lives of patients with high unmet treatment needs.”

Bayer and Onyx Pharmaceuticals will present details and data from over 65 studies of the drug at the 2009 American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting.

Meanwhile, Bayer announced this week its new oral contraceptive Qlaira will be available from today (May 15th) in several European countries.
