NHS teams gain access to performance data

NHS teams have been given access to new data that shows their performance against a range of high-quality care indicators, it has been announced.

The Department of Health (DoH) explains that this move represents the latest step in a drive to aid NHS staff in enhancing the quality of the care that they provide to patients.

Information will be made available to allow NHS professionals to assess the need for and success of local quality improvement and also provide support to commissioners of NHS services.

The DoH said: “The Indicators for Quality Improvement (IQI) have been selected in conjunction with the Royal Colleges, following extensive consultation with the NHS, and are currently based on existing national indicator sets and data collections.”

A new governance structure, which will involve “key information organisations” that are capable of testing new indicators, is due to be established in the future to provide national support for the IQI system, the NHS asserted.
