Biolitec commences clinical trial of laser-based prostate treatment

Biolitec has begun a multicentre clinical study of its Evolve Dual laser technology for the treatment of benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH).

The company’s new medical device works in conjunction with its Twister-brand fibre to treat the condition, offering ablation rates with good haemostasis, while reducing the risk of bleeding to a minimum.

This trial has been commenced following consultation with the International Prostate Expert Group to determine the safest and most effective standardised technique for application of the technology.

It is hoped that the study will demonstrate the effectiveness of the device in avoiding the bleeding and bladder perforation risk normally associated with such treatments.

Biolitec expressed confidence that its new innovation “sets a new standard of efficacy and safety”.

The Evolve Dual follows in the footsteps of the company’s previous Evolve 180 medical laser system, which is specified for removal of bladder tumours and cysts, as well as for ureterostenosis procedures.
