Biohit maintains profitability in 2009
Biohit has published its annual report for 2009, which outlines the science company’s success in maintaining profitability and strong sales performance during the year.
The firm recorded a net sales total of 35.4 million euros (30.7 million pounds) in the last year, allowing it to turn an operating profit of 1.2 million euros.
Its liquid handling products contributed 95 per cent of its net sales during 2009, with the performance of this division rising to an all-time high in the final quarter.
However, Biohit’s diagnostics division experienced the largest relative growth last year, due in part to increasing net sales of test kits and the company’s initiatives to strengthen the growth potential of the unit.
Professor Osmo Suovaniemi, president and chief executive officer at Biohit, said: “We have expanded our business in spite of the global recession. There are no factors on the horizon that would put the brakes on this trend when the economy starts to boom again.”
Earlier this month, the company’s financial director Petteri Rehu stepped down from the company, with Eija Patrikainen filling the role temporarily until a replacement is found.
