Daiichi Sankyo reports positive Azor trial data

Daiichi Sankyo has highlighted data from a clinical trial which supports the efficacy of Azor, its combination therapy for sufferers of hypertension.

The pharmaceutical company’s treatment, which combines amlodipine and olmesartan medoxomil, was trialled among 999 patients affected by uncontrolled hypertension as part of the BP Crush clinical study.

It was found that the majority of patients who switched to Azor from a monotherapy treatment were able to meet blood pressure reduction targets.

Dr Joel Neutel, director of the Orange County Heart Institute and Research Center in Tustin, said the fact that there was no period of non-treatment in between the two medication regimes is further proof of Azor’s safety and efficacy.

He added: “The results of this study may be of immediate practical use to physicians, as they show that switching patients from monotherapy to combination therapy was widely effective.”

Daiichi Sankyo is currently in the process of conducting a pan-European clinical trial of the recurrent venous thromboembolism edoxaban, which involves around 7,500 patients.
