Intervet/Schering-Plough launches Slice project for salmon industry

11th May 2010

Intervet/Schering-Plough has announced a six-step strategy for salmon producers called the Slice Sustainability Project, designed to help manage the costly issue of sea lice.

Launched at the Sea Lice 2010 conference in Vancouver, Canada, the Slice project aims to give salmon farmers the additional resources they need to manage and control sea lice.

Originally developed ten years ago, Slice was able to help salmon producers bring sea lice levels under control but fears that the parasite would eventually become resistant to the treatment were rife.

The new Slice Sustainability Project is based on four core actions of protect, conserve, renew and succeed and builds upon proven management practices in a bid to control sea lice and keep Slice the top product in sea lice management.

Dr Richard Endris, programme manager for Intervet/Schering-Plough, said: “Slice allows salmon farmers to protect their farms from economic losses, conserve valuable therapeutics, renew the strength and dependability of proven products and succeed through proactive management practices.”

Last month, Intervet/Schering-Plough opened a new production centre facility in the Netherlands to augment its global production capacity of veterinary vaccines for bacterial infections.
