GE Healthcare to collaborate with CardioDx

14th May 2010

GE Healthcare has entered into a new alliance with cardiovascular genomic diagnostic specialist CardioDx in order to develop new heart disease treatments.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will look to advance and co-develop new technologies to enhance care and management options for patients with cardiovascular diseases.

The deal has already seen GE Healthcare make an initial investment of $5 million (3.4 million pounds) in CardioDx, whose portfolio includes products such as the Corus CAD genomic test.

Pascale Witz, president and chief executive officer of GE Healthcare’s medical diagnostics business, said the firms’ common focus on cardiovascular disease makes the new alliance an “excellent strategic fit”.

He added: “The alliance with CardioDx gives us access to new and exciting technologies in high-value diagnostics, which will complement and strengthen our existing offerings.”

Last month, GE Healthcare announced the commencement of a new clinical trial of flutemetamol, its new positron emission tomography imaging agent for use in brain imaging.
