Intervet/Schering-Plough highlights efficacy of Scalibor
Intervet/Schering-Plough has highlighted new data which supports the effectiveness of its Scalibor deltamethrin-impregnated dog collars in preventing the spread of Leishmaniasis.
Sao Paolo State University researchers recently presented data at the International Congress on Canine Leishmaniasis from a 25-month study conducted in Brazil, which aimed to establish the efficacy of the collar in controlling the infectious disease.
It was found that widespread use of the collar across the country was accompanied by a “dramatic decline” in the number of Leishmaniasis cases noted among both canines and humans.
According to Intervet/Schering-Plough, this illustrates the effectiveness of Scalibor in curbing the vector-borne illness, which causes 60,000 deaths worldwide each year.
Dr Thierry Martine of Intervet/Schering Plough said: “With increased movement of people and animals and changes in seasonal temperatures, it is essential that the veterinarian community at large and pet owners remain vigilant to the disease.”
Last week, Intervet/Schering-Plough was granted a recommendation from the European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Veterinary Use for its pig vaccines Porcilis PRRS and Porcilis M Hyo to be approved for simultaneous administration.
