Boehringer Ingelheim presents award for neuroscience research

6th July 2010

Boehringer Ingelheim has sponsored an award presented to a leading researcher in honour of her innovative work in the field of neuroscience.

The pharmaceutical company, in association with the Forum of the Federation of European Neuroscience, gave the biennial Boehringer Ingelheim FENS Award to French-based scientist Fekrije Selimi.

Her award-winning work centres on controlling mechanisms in the development of neuronal connectivity in the brains of mice, with the hope of providing greater understanding of the regulation of synapse formation and function.

Boehringer Ingelheim congratulated the researcher on her ability to combine a creative and innovative strategy with “experimental thoroughness and persistence”.

Professor Andreas Barner, chairman of the board of managing directors at Boehringer Ingelheim, said: “Fekrije Selimi has investigated one of the key processes in brain signalling and brain function and it is a pleasure to honour her with the Boehringer Ingelheim FENS Research Award.”

Last week, Boehringer Ingelheim published data from a new clinical study of its diabetes drug linagliptin, demonstrating its efficacy both as a monotherapy and in combination with other treatments.
