Philips to launch new MRI solution for oncology use

3rd November 2010

Philips has introduced new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology designed specifically with oncology and radiation therapy in mind.

The Philips Panorama High Field Open (HFO) Oncology Configuration has been showcased by the manufacturer at the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology meeting.

It combines a spacious patient aperture with the traditional premium soft tissue contrast advantages of MRI, allowing clinicians to treat their patients comfortably while maintaining accurate tumour visualisation standards.

According to the firm, the new system's ability to enable scans in the treatment position could prove crucial in the future staging and planning of radiation therapy.

Gene Saragnese, general manager of imaging systems at Philips Healthcare, said: "The Philips Panorama HFO Oncology Configuration is proof positive of the continued increase in MRI clinical applications and utility."

Last month, the company published its financial results for the third quarter of 2010, reporting year-on-year growth in terms of sales, income and earnings.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800214119-ADNFCR
