KCI provides donation to help Japanese earthquake victims

KCI has made a cash donation to the Japanese Red Cross to help the organisation to provide relief to those affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami.

The company has provided $100,000 (61,400 pounds) to the not-for-profit body and has also pledged to match financial donations made by its employees up to an additional $100,000 total.

KCI has been operating in Japan since 2010 and has around 150 employees in the nation, pledging to offer those in need with relocation or temporary housing assistance.

It is also working with relief organisations and local authorities to establish whether a contribution of KCI medical equipment will be necessary for treating injured patients.

Cathy Burzik, KCI's president and chief executive officer, said: "KCI and its employees in more than 20 countries around the globe stand ready to assist any way we can. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the people of Japan."

In January 2011, the firm signed a deal with Wright Medical Group that will allow it to market the LifeCell regenerative tissue matrix under the Graftjacket brand name.
