Orthovita launches Aliquot bone tamp for VCF surgery

19th April 2011

Orthovita has announced the launch of a new bone tamp that makes it easier to address vertebral compression fractures (VCF) using its Cortoss bone augmentation material.

The company's new Aliquot directional bone tamp is a channel creation device that allows the injectable bioactive composite to be safely targeted and placed into the vertebral body.

It creates curvilinear channels that reduce levels of material flow resistance and has been designed to integrate with the existing vertebral body access tools offered by the Aliquot delivery system.

Antony Koblish, chief executive officer of Orthovita, said this will strengthen the usability profile of Cortoss, the only clinically proven alternative to polymethylmethacrylate cement for these applications.

"The introduction of this device allows Orthovita to more effectively compete in the kyphoplasty segment of the VCF market," he added.

Last week, the company published positive clinical trial data on its Vitagel surgical haemostat product, which showed its efficacy in reducing blood loss during joint replacement.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800505915-ADNFCR
