Cook Medical launches catheter for Bartholin gland cysts

9th August 2011

Cook Medical has announced the launch of a new catheter for use in the treatment of cysts affecting the Bartholin gland.

The Word catheter utilises a silicone balloon that can be inserted into the cyst and inflated to hold the catheter in place, thereby allowing wounds to heal without closing.

It can remain in place for up to 28 days while the healing process is completed, while its silicone construction means that patients with allergies to latex will also be able to benefit.

Cook Medical states that the low-cost catheter can be useful in the treatment of Bartholin gland cysts, which occur when the gland becomes blocked, leading to a fluid buildup that can eventually result in infection and abscesses.

Christina Anne, global leader of Cook's women's health division, said: "The Word catheter brings an economical option to the table for obstetrician/gynaecologists, emphasising Cook's commitment to respond to physician needs."

Last month, the company invited urologists to contribute to its new online registry for the Resonance Metallic Ureteral Stent, which aims to collate data to inform best practice guidelines.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800694144-ADNFCR
