Waters and Tecan to co-develop clinical assay platform
Waters is to collaborate with Tecan on the development of an efficient new clinical assay platform, which will incorporate technology from both companies.
Under the terms of the arrangement, Waters will be responsible for combining Tecan's Freedom Evo liquid handling platform with its own Acquity TQD liquid chromatograph/mass spectrometer system.
The resulting device will offer a single, fully-supported solution for automated sample preparation, allowing laboratories to benefit from increased throughput, efficiency and profitability, as well as reduced assay costs.
Patrick Martell, clinical marketing director for Waters, said the current multi-step process involved in these procedures currently causes a significant bottleneck for clients.
"Combining sample preparation and analysis in a single unified platform facilitates the entire assay process and streamlines analyses significantly," he added.
Last month, Waters announced that it has gifted one of its Acquity TQD systems to the University at Buffalo, in order to help further research into HIV and Aids.
