GlaxoSmithKline announces initiatives to tackle global health issues
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has announced it is launching more initiatives in order to advance openness and collaboration in order to tackle global health issues.
Speaking at a meeting hosted by the Wellcome Trust in London this week (October 11th), chief executive of GSK Sir Andrew Witty outlined steps to build on encouraging sings of progress resulting from the company's "open innovation" approach to research and development.
He also set out GSK's commitment to sharing detailed clinical trial data to allow scientific analysis to enhance research.
"By being more open with our clinical trial data, we also hope to help further scientific understanding," Sir Andrew said ahead of the summit.
The "open innovation" stance is designed to help develop new solutions for the world's most serious health challenges.
Detailed information from GSK clinical trials are to be made available to researchers to further scientific understanding and knowledge and Sir Andrew stated that he feels it is the company's responsibility to maximise its resources.
