Medtronic CoreValve System study demonstrates ongoing benefits

Medtronic has reported data from Advance, a new study that demonstrates the numerous benefits offered by its CoreValve System.

Initial results from the trial show that the device is able to deliver high survival rates, with one-year survival measured at 82.1 percent and one-year cardiovascular survival coming in at 88.2 percent.

Meanwhile, health-related quality of life measures for patients improved markedly at one and six months after the CoreValve System was implanted, even among the highest-risk patients.

CoreValve received European CE Mark approval in 2007 and has been implanted in more than 300,000 patients across 60 countries to date.

Dr Johan Bosmans, professor at the University Hospital of Antwerp in Belgium, said: "We are extremely proud of this data, which confirms that the benefits of transcatheter aortic therapy extend beyond survival even in this challenging patient population."

This week, Medtronic also announced data from a study that demonstrated the long-term efficacy of its renal denervation system Symplicity.
