Simplyhealth sponsoring Mouth Cancer Action Month this November

6th November 2012

Simplyhealth has announced that it is sponsoring Mouth Cancer Action Month, a public health campaign running throughout November 2012.

The company is working with subsidiary Denplan and event organiser the British Dental Health Foundation to raise awareness of the symptoms of mouth cancer and the potential risks of contracting the disease.

Cases of this condition have risen by almost 50 percent over the last decade, with recent Simplyhealth research showing that 70 percent of adults are unaware of the symptoms of the disease.

Potential indicators of mouth cancer include persistent ulcers, unusual swellings and red or white patches in the mouth, while risk factors such as smoking and poor diet can increase the risk of contracting it.

Simplyhealth spokesperson Caroline Newton said: "We want to highlight the key risks of mouth cancer, inform individuals of the symptoms and encourage them, should they have any concerns, to speak to their dentist as soon as possible."

As part of the initiative, the cash plan provider is encouraging employers to provide their staff with advice on the importance of good oral health.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801483141-ADNFCR
