BVA to launch one-to-one careers advice service

The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has announced the launch of a new one-to-one careers advice service that aims to help animal health workers progress in the right direction professionally.

Developed in partnership with C2 Careers, the service was introduced at the recent London Vet Show 2012 and will allow BVA members to receive guidance face-to-face, by phone or via email.

It covers everything from exploring different job options to overcoming setbacks and returning to work after a break, as well as offering advice on CV writing and professional interview skills.

The aim of this scheme is to help those in the sector gain full access to the wide variety of opportunities available, in accordance with their own personal goals and skill sets.

Peter Jones, president of the BVA, said: "It's so important that the BVA provides services that our members really value and we know that careers advice is high on the list, especially for our younger colleagues."

Last month, the BVA expressed concern over the announcement that the University of Surrey is launching a new school of veterinary medicine, as the industry body believes this could create an oversupply of veterinary surgeons who are unable to find jobs.
