BCF Technology aids polar bear treatment at Scottish wildlife park

BCF Technology has lent expertise and technical support to aid the treatment of a polar bear with dental problems at Highland Wildlife Park.

Representatives from the company travelled to the Inverness site to provide a Vita CR X-ray system for use in the diagnosis of Arktos, a four-year-old polar bear that had been suffering from a toothache.

Using the machinery, it was found that the animal would require a root canal rather than an extraction as first thought, with the subsequent operation taking three hours in total and proving a success.

The Vita allowed a number of radiographs to be taken throughout the operation, providing near-instant imaging and facilitating quick diagnosis and treatment planning.

Simon Girling, the vet in charge of coordinating and supervising the procedure, said: "May I take this opportunity to thank you all including your colleagues for the work carried out today. It all went very smoothly thanks to your professionalism and expertise."

Last week, BCF Technology announced that its staff were able to raise almost £100 for Children in Need through various activities, with the company pledging to double this total before sending it off to the charity organisers.
