Government details NHS investigation over Jimmy Savile abuse scandal

7th December 2012

The Department of Health has confirmed the details of the major probe that will take place into NHS bodies that have been linked to the alleged abuse committed by Sir Jimmy Savile.

Separate investigations are taking place at Leeds General Infirmary, Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Broadmoor Hospital, the facilities where the TV personality is accused of committing sexual abuse on minors.

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has asked former barrister Kate Lampard to provide independent assurance of the robustness of these processes, including ensuring all inquiries are working towards a common goal.

Ms Lampard said: "By satisfying myself that all the investigations are working to the same goals, I'll be able to undertake a lessons learned exercise to ensure any relevant findings benefit the wider NHS."

The probe is likely to carry on until the second half of 2013 and victims or witnesses have been offered details on how to contact the investigations, alongside helplines offering support and advice.

Those seeking support are advised to get in touch with the Association for People Abused in Childhood, the Samaritans or the NSPCC.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801502771-ADNFCR
