St Jude Medical begins enrolment for EnligHTN study
St Jude Medical has launched a new clinical study that will assess the safety and efficacy of its EnligHTN Renal Denervation System among patients with uncontrolled hypertension.
The post-market EnligHTN II trial has commenced enrolment and will build on the recent EnligHTN I study, which showed that St Jude Medical's device can deliver a rapid and sustained drop in blood pressure for sufferers.
Conducted at 40 sites across Europe and Australia, the new trial will evaluate the mean reduction in systolic blood pressure at six months across all enrolled patients post-renal denervation and within sub-groups with varying degrees of kidney functionality.
Frank Callaghan, president of the St Jude Medical cardiovascular and ablation technologies division, said: "St Jude Medical is dedicated to conducting research that will contribute to the body of evidence supporting the effectiveness of renal denervation in reducing hypertension."
This comes after the firm announced last month that it has received European CE Mark approval for its clinically-proven Amplatzer Amulet Left Atrial Appendage Occluder.
