Dechra Veterinary Products relaunches Oxyglobin in the UK
Dechra Veterinary Products has relaunched Oxyglobin in the UK and Republic of Ireland after it was withdrawn three years ago.
The treatment maintains tissue oxygenation even in instances of severe stenosis of the blood vessels.
It has a viscosity that is more than water but less than blood for ease of flow through vessels and increases circulatory volume.
Oxyglobin is now available in individual 60ml transfusion bags, as well as a 125ml bag and can be purchased off the shelf for dogs in need of oxygen support, while no typing or cross-matching of the recipient's blood is required prior to administration.
Dechra Veterinary Products brand manager Carol Morgan explained the treatment was withdrawn in 2010 after OPK Biotech acquired the assets of manufacturer Biopure Corporation in 2009, but in 2013, OPK Biotech resumed manufacturing Oxyglobin and stocks will be available to practices as of this month.
"We're delighted to be able to relaunch it in the UK and Republic of Ireland," she added.
