David Cameron responds to Mid Staffordshire report

David Cameron has pledged that the government will do everything in its power to make sure there is no repeat of the errors made at the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust.

The public inquiry into the failings of this institution was released yesterday (February 6th) and Robert Francis QC, chair of the report, said the panel had uncovered some "truly shocking" evidence of medical negligence overseen by professionals at the body.

"This is a story of appalling and unnecessary suffering of hundreds of people," he noted.

Mr Francis went on to say the system failed its patients as it "put corporate self interest" at the top of its priority list, rather than the health and safety of those people under its care.

With this in mind, the prime minister apologised to the families affected by this malpractice in a speech in parliament and admitted "it is clear we need to do more".

"We will study every one of the 290 recommendations in the report and respond in detail next month," he added.
