GlaxoSmithKline launches inhaler recycling scheme
GlaxoSmithKline has announced the launch of the UK's first ever inhaler recycling scheme.
In order to mark the event, the company unveiled a giant inhaler at London's Victoria station yesterday (February 11th 2013).
Although some 73 million inhalers are used in the UK every year, the firm pointed out that more than 63 per cent of them are placed in domestic bins after use.
Complete the Cycle, the inhaler recycling campaign from the company, is now available in over 1,300 pharmacies located within three miles of almost three-quarters of the UK population. It was first launched in a trial that took place in February 2011.
"We've been pleased to add our support to this new initiative from GlaxoSmithKline which will help people recycled their discarded inhalers," said Laura Underwood from Recycle Now.
Inhalers will be collected by GlaxoSmithKline as part of routine deliveries to pharmacies, which the firm explained means no extra miles are travelled in the administration of the programme.
