Sanofi Espoir Foundation extends childhood cancer scheme with UICC

The Sanofi Espoir Foundation has announced the three-year renewal of My Child Matters, a public health initiative it is carrying out alongside the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).

Since 2006, the project has seen the organisations working together to combat childhood cancer in poorer countries, with more than 40 individual schemes providing care for 38,700 children and training for 9,700 healthcare professionals across 26 nations.

The renewed alliance is based on the three priorities of raising awareness of the issue, providing backing for international care networks and enhancing support and evaluation of ongoing
projects in 15 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Caty Forget, managing director of the Sanofi Espoir Foundation, said: "A programme is a success when it has delivered real benefits in improving access to healthcare for the world's poorest people, while at the same time reinforcing the care chain and influencing health policy."

The Sanofi Espoir Corporate Foundation was created in October 2010 by the pharmaceutical company Sanofi and was responsible for providing donations of 212,000 boxes of medicines and 645,000 doses of vaccines last year.
