AbbVie reports positive paediatric Crohn’s trial data for Humira

AbbVie has reported positive results from new analyses of IMAgINE-1, a phase III trial assessing the performance of its versatile therapy Humira among paediatric Crohn's disease patients.

Data from the study showed that the drug was able to deliver significant improvement in selected measures of health-related quality of life at 12 weeks among patients aged between six and 17 years old.

Substantial benefits in terms of bowel symptoms, body image, functional/social impairment, emotional impairment, tests/treatments and systemic impairment were all noted, with improvements being maintained for 52 weeks in many cases.

Dr John Medich, divisional vice-president for immunology clinical development at AbbVIe's global pharmaceutical research and development division, said: "AbbVie is pleased with these results and will continue to explore ways Humira can help improve the quality of life for these young patients and others affected by this chronic and debilitating inflammatory bowel disease."

Humira is one of AbbVie's most important therapies and is also indicated as a treatment for conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, plaque psoriasis, ankylosing spondylitis and ulcerative colitis.
