Pfizer reports positive epilepsy trial data for Lyrica

Pfizer has announced that its established therapy Lyrica has met its primary efficacy endpoint in a new clinical trial conducted among epilepsy patients.

In the recent study, the treatment was shown to offer comparable levels of efficacy to levetiracetam as an adjunctive therapy in adult epilepsy patients experiencing refractory partial onset seizures.

A similar proportion of patients on Lyrica achieved at least a 50 percent reduction in the 28-day seizure rate during the maintenance phase relative to levetiracetam, while the drug's adverse event profile was consistent with previous studies.

This builds on the existing positive clinical profile of Lyrica, which has been approved for sale in 120 countries and regions across the world to date.

In Europe, it is approved in a total of four indications – peripheral and central neuropathic pain, generalised anxiety disorder and partial seizures with or without secondary generalisation in adults with epilepsy.

Last month, Pfizer reported positive clinical trial data for its major depressive disorder therapy Pristiq, which underlined its effectiveness among adult patients.
