Sanofi company Genzyme’s rare disease head honoured

Sanofi subsidiary Genzyme has announced that its head of rare diseases Dr Rogerio Vivaldi has won an award for his contributions to the industry.

Dr Vivaldi has been named industry person of the year by the Genetic Disease Foundation thanks to his outstanding work in advancing medical research and delivering new therapies to rare disease sufferers.

He has been striving to achieve this goal for more than 20 years, achieving breakthroughs in the development of innovative treatment approaches for conditions such as Gaucher disease.

The Genetic Disease Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1997 to support research and counselling in this area of medicine, while also conducting educational initiatives.

Commenting on his win, Dr Vivaldi said: "At Genzyme we continue the mission to develop and deliver transformative therapies to all patients affected by rare genetic diseases."

This comes after Genzyme won a company award from EURORDIS, the largest European patient organisation in the field of rare diseases, earlier this month.
