AstraZeneca has announced it has appointed Marc Dunoyer as its new executive vice-president of global portfolio and product strategy.

The global pharmaceuticals company confirmed Mr Dunoyer will take responsibility for its business development through the newly-created role, while overseeing mergers and acquisitions.

Mr Dunoyer, who will join the workforce during the second quarter of 2013, was previously employed by GlaxoSmithKline as global head of rare diseases, while he was also a member of the company's corporate executive team.

Prior to his employment at GlaxoSmithKline in 1999, he held several international positions in operations and general management at Hoechst Marion Roussel.
