Idexx Laboratories appoints new general counsel

Idexx Laboratories has recruited Jeffrey Fiarman as its new executive vice-president and general counsel, overseeing legal, compliance, business development and regulatory functions at the company.

Mr Fiarman is taking up his role with Idexx on May 1st 2013 and has been appointed after spending seven years serving in the equivalent position at Weight Watchers International.

During his time at Weight Watchers, he was responsible for a broad range of legal, regulatory, risk management, intellectual property and insurance operations, meaning he has a strong base of relevant experience for his new post.

His appointment comes at a time when Idexx is aiming to drive its annual revenue total past the $2 billion (1.3 billion pounds) mark and beyond.

Jonathan Ayers, chairman and chief executive officer of Idexx Laboratories, said: "Jeff's management experience and demonstrated business acumen, as well as his legal skills and leadership, will be invaluable to Idexx as we continue to expand our global reach."

The company is currently also searching for a new chief financial officer to act as a successor to Merilee Raines, who will be retiring from her position at the animal health firm next month.
