Procter and Gamble achieves zero-waste goal at 45 global sites

Procter and Gamble has highlighted the progress it has made in increasing the number of its worldwide facilities that send zero manufacturing waste to landfill.

Thus far, this key environmental goal has been achieved at 45 facilities internationally, including its UK sites in Bournemouth, Newcastle and Reading.

This goal was first met at the consumer products company's Budapest centre in 2007, with less than one percent of all materials entering Procter and Gamble's global sites now leaving as waste.

Over the past five decades, the company's efforts in this area have helped to save the business around $5 billion (3.26 billion pounds).

Bob McDonald, Procter and Gamble's president, chief executive officer and chairman, said: "We have a vision for the future, where plants are powered by renewable energy, products are made from recycled and renewable materials and resources are conserved, with no waste going to landfill."

The firm is one of the biggest multinational businesses of its kind in the world, creating a wide variety of products sold in more than 180 countries worldwide.
