Medtronic highlights study showing benefits of Resolute stent
Medtronic has highlighted the findings of a new study that demonstrates the benefits its Resolute stent can bring to diabetes patients.
The paper, which appeared in the latest issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Cardiovascular Interventions, details how treatment with the Resolute drug-eluting stent led to similarly positive outcomes for diabetes patients who were not taking insulin and for patients without diabetes.
It is a key discovery given that diabetes is a common comorbidity of coronary artery disease, with findings from this trial helping to support the stent's recent approval by the US Food and Drug Administration.
Professor Dr Sigmund Silber, director of the Heart Center at the Isar in Munich, Germany, said: "These two analyses offer interventional cardiologists worldwide increased confidence when making treatment decisions about the coronary artery disease of patients with diabetes mellitus."
Earlier this month, the company received European CE Mark approval for its Sentrant Introducer Sheath, a new accessory for endovascular interventions.
