Bausch and Lomb and Leica agree microscope distribution deal

17th April 2013

Bausch and Lomb has agreed a new product distribution agreement with Leica Microsystems covering select markets in Europe, the US, India and Latin America.

Beginning this month, Bausch and Lomb will offer Leica ophthalmic surgical microscopes and accessories through its commercial infrastructure, with products covered by the deal ranging from routine cataract microscopes to high-end retinal systems.

This relationship will allow Bausch and Lomb to complement its current portfolio of products for cataract, refractive and retinal surgery with new offerings and could potentially be expanded over time.

The firm is becoming an emerging leader in femtosecond laser technology for cataract surgery, thanks also to its recent acquisition of the ophthalmology laser company Technolas Perfect Vision.

John Barr, executive vice-president and president for Bausch and Lomb's global surgical division, said: "Bausch and Lomb is a perfect partner for companies, such as Leica Microsystems, looking to broaden their market reach through a powerful worldwide commercial infrastructure."

This comes after the firm received European CE Mark approval for three new indications for its Victus femtosecond laser platform earlier this month.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801573010-ADNFCR
