Cook Medical launches Retracta embolisation coil
Cook Medical has announced the launch of a new fully retractable 0.035-inch embolisation coil, designed for use in peripheral arterial and venous embolisation procedures.
The Retracta product has been demonstrated at the annual Society of Interventional Radiology meeting and has been optimised to provide clinicians with more controlled delivery of the embolisation coils.
These devices can be placed and detached with precision when necessary, a process made easier by the high visibility of the detachment zone.
Using platinum technology to allow soft packing of the coil, they can be used right out of the package, as is the case with Cook's previously-launched Nester coils, on which the design of Retracta is based.
Andrew Conder, senior global product manager for embolisation at Cook Medical, said: "When trying to control bleeding, precise coil placement is critical in embolisation procedures. The Retracta is simple and affordable, and gives physicians control over placement."
Earlier this month, the firm launched a new full biliary biopsy set that offers a number of advantages in the treatment of obstructive jaundice.
