Boots to launch in-store asthma support programme
Boots has announced the launch of a new in-store support programme aimed at empowering asthma sufferers across the UK.
The scheme will potentially help millions of patients to take control of their health and will also enable pharmacists to make relevant clinical interventions and onward referrals where appropriate, complementing the work done by GPs and nurses.
It comes in response to a recent poll carried out by the pharmacy chain showing that 44 percent of asthma patients feel that more support is needed for sufferers of this condition within the local community.
Peter Bainbridge, director of pharmacy at Boots UK, said: "An easily accessible conversation with a trained Boots UK pharmacist can empower patients to take control of their asthma, helping to manage their symptoms and take their medication correctly."
Earlier this month, representatives of the Alliance Boots chain told Chemist and Druggist that bosses are also currently considering the introduction of local chemotherapy services, similar to those provided by Alliance Boots' US partner Walgreens.
