Boston Scientific’s DBS visualisation system approved in Europe

28th May 2013

Boston Scientific has been granted European CE Mark approval for the groundbreaking deep brain stimulation (DBS) visualisation system Guide DBS.

Providing clinicians with 3D visualisation information that simulates stimulation output, the device is the first of its kind in the world and is designed to reduce programming time and enable more precise treatment targeting.

Because it allows users to visualise the relative position of lead location and utilise stimulation field models within the brain, Guide DBS can help to deliver advanced treatment of conditions such as Parkinson's disease.

It is designed for use in conjunction with the Vercise DBS System, which was approved for sale in Europe last year.

Maulik Nanavaty, president of the Boston Scientific neuromodulation division, said: "This innovative system is the first of its kind and designed to help physicians provide better therapy for their patients and improve programming time."

Earlier this month, the company began a new study of the CE-Marked WallFlex Biliary RX Stent, in order to assess its usefulness as a bridge to surgery among pancreatic or periampullary cancer patients.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801591109-ADNFCR
