Kimberly-Clark reports progress in new sustainability report

Kimberly-Clark has highlighted the latest findings from its 2012 sustainability report, offering an overview of its recent environmental and corporate responsibility achievements.

Last year, 58 percent of its facilities met their goal of zero landfill manufacturing waste, while a 15 percent annual improvement in energy efficiency and 12 percent increase in tissue manufacturing water-use efficiency were noted.

Around 22 percent of the company's net sales were derived from environmentally innovative products during the period, while 1.5 million lb of sterile medical wraps were diverted from landfills.

Additionally, eight Kimberly-Clark mill sites attained their goal of one million labour hours worked safely without a reportable incident and $33 million (21.06 million pounds) was raised in cash and product donations for disaster relief and community support.

Tom Falk, chairman and chief executive officer of Kimberly-Clark, said: "We are working with the same dedication to quality, service and fairness established by our founders. Our dedication to those values and long-term sustainability has never changed."

This comes after the firm was named one of the world's top 100 corporate citizens by Corporate Responsibility Magazine earlier this year.
