Covidien reports positive study data on Pipeline embolisation device

18th June 2013

Covidien has announced the publication of encouraging new data from a clinical study of the Pipeline embolisation device.

Featured in the June 2013 issue of the journal Radiology, the results from the PUFs study showed that Pipeline was able to deliver a complete and durable aneurysm embolisation in the majority of patients without the use of an alternative treatment.

Moreover, the occlusion rate in these patients also improved over time, reaching 86.8 percent complete occlusion at one-year follow-up – a significant achievement among this challenging patient population.

Pipeline functions by diverting blood flow away from the aneurysm, thus providing a successful embolisation while also maintaining the patency of the parent vessel.

Dr Mark Turco, chief medical officer for vascular therapies at Covidien, said: "Covidien remains committed to delivering clinical data to help redefine how neurointerventionalists treat large and giant wide-necked aneurysms."

Last month, the company reported data from a study of its Barrx RF Ablation System, showing the benefits it can provide in the treatment of Barrett's oesophagus.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801600813-ADNFCR
