Janssen to present new Invokana data at ADA meeting

21st June 2013

Janssen has announced plans to present data on one of its new diabetes therapies at the annual scientific sessions of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) in Chicago.

The company is attending the event from June 21st to 25th 2013 in order to give a total of 17 presentations on the innovative drug Invokana (canagliflozin), which is part of a new class of medications called sodium glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors.

Talks will include three late-breaking abstracts and the first presentation of results from a phase III trial assessing Invokana compared to sitagliptin among adult patients on a background of metformin therapy.

Additionally, a health economic analysis of the drug will be discussed in order to highlight the long-term benefits and cost savings it can deliver.

Dr Kirk Ways, vice-president of cardiovascular/metabolism clinical development at Janssen, said: "We are looking forward to sharing healthcare economics and outcomes data that can help illustrate the disease burden and patient experience of living with type 2 diabetes."

Invokana is approved for sale in the US, with Janssen also submitting a EU regulatory application for canagliflozin plus metformin for the treatment of type 2 diabetes earlier this year.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801602243-ADNFCR
