Sanofi reports positive data from new insulin trial

Sanofi has announced the first phase III study results for U300, an investigational new insulin based on the glargine molecule – the biological entity of its established therapy Lantus.

Results from the Edition I trial showed that U300 delivered equivalent blood sugar control with fewer nighttime low blood sugar events compared to Lantus, while also offering a similar safety performance to the older product.

Meanwhile, topline data from a second phase III study called Edition II offered a similar outcome, with full results from this trial set to be discussed at a later date.

It is hoped that the Edition trial programme will demonstrate further findings about how this investigational basal insulin can help people living with diabetes.

Pierre Chancel, senior vice-president for global diabetes at Sanofi, said: "We are striving to further enhance the clinical value of basal insulin, while building on the wealth of evidence of Lantus, the world's most prescribed insulin."

This comes after the firm announced positive data earlier this week from a trial of Lyxumia, another one of its diabetes therapies.
