KCI launches new CelluTome Epidermal Harvesting System

KCI has announced the introduction of a new epidermal harvesting tool that aims to make epidermal grafting accessible to a wider range of clinicians and patients.

The CelluTome Epidermal Harvesting System represents an automated, precise and reproducible means of harvesting autologous, non-damaged epidermal tissue,  while minimising donor site complications.

Trials using the device have shown its ability to harvest skin tissue with minimal to zero pain and scarring, making it easier than ever to graft epidermis to help heal wounds.

According to KCI, this addresses an unmet need in acquiring skin grafts and will help a broad range of physicians to manage wounds more effectively.

Joe Woody, president and chief executive officer at the organisation, said: "This means the whole process can take place in an outpatient setting, which truly transforms the way physicians have traditionally used skin grafting."

The global rollout of CelluTome was confirmed at a company-sponsored epidermal grafting education summit in Colorado at the end of April 2013, with the product now available in the US.
