Merck Serono to provide grants for innovation in fertility

Merck Serono has announced that it is to support the Grant for Fertility Innovation (GFI) fund by providing it with four million euros (3.47 million pounds) in 2013 and 2014. 

The announcement was made during the 29th annual meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, which took place in London between the 7th and 10th of July. 

Since its launch in 2009, the GFI has received 525 applications from 45 countries for funding for research projects into solutions for issues relating to assisted reproductive technologies. Of these, 26 projects from 16 countries have been awarded grants totalling six million euros.

Dr Annalisa Jenkins, executive vice-president and head of global development and medical at Merck Serono, said: "Advancing our ability to identify, validate and bring to the clinic innovative technologies for the benefit of the patients who are struggling to conceive is a core principle of the GFI."
